Well I have just completed my second day at Hands Across the Water Orphanage in Thailand and I must say I am totally exhausted and not even all the kids are here yet! They are on school holidays at the moment (which is unusual for me as I am usually surrounded by kids during school holiday time!) They go to extended families for holidays and there are only a few left behind so its given me time to get to know these few and look into what I am doing here, which is sometimes hard to work out, especially when you don’t speak the language.
The children here are from all kinds of different backgrounds, some of them lost both their parents in the Tsunami, others lost only one, leaving the other parent having to work and therefore not being able to look after their children. There is a huge community here that has had its house donated by this orphanage and they all live in very close proximity to the orphanage and eachother.
Jobs here are in the hundreds, washing, cleaning, cooking, preparation in the kitchen, much needed maintenance and gardening, teaching English to the children (they are all so keen) painting, sweeping, digging, cutting, spraying, hugging and loving! Its an ongoing day that just melds into one long hot happy world.
It is overwhelming and not easy in the slightest and I am dead to the world every night when I hit the pillow and its only my second day, but I am slowly finding my feet and working out what I can do to help and this is what I came for so I am happy.

This Easter School Holiday workshop is all about the children. FrootLoop Circus is taking itself to Thailand with the proceeds from this circus camp to volunteer time for one month at a beautiful orphanage called “Hands Across the Water”. For the whole month of May Nina will be working with the children, helping them with their school work, taking them to school, making their dinners with them and trying to spread some smiles and love. She’ll definately be throwing in some circus tricks too. So watch this space for all photos and blogs from Nina on her adventure. And if you want to help? then just book in for this school holidays, learn some juggling, do some tricks on the trapeze, stumble around on some stilts, make a poodle out of a balloon and help get Nina to her destination to help children in need.
